An opportunity to be among the first sitting in the new First Tier Tax Chamber

The Judicial Appointments Commission is inviting applications to join the newly created First Tier Tax Chamber. For the first time there will be one jurisdiction hearing the full range of direct and indirect tax cases across the UK. The work will be varied and will require sensitive handling. It will range from the simple to the complex, and affect both individual taxpayers and large multinational companies. The type of case to be heard will range from issues relating to Income Tax Self Assessment through to Petroleum Revenue Tax and Stamp Duty; and from VAT default surcharges through to Insurance Premium Tax and Climate Change Levy.

The vacancies are:

Salaried Judges

Vacancies: 4
Location: Birmingham, London & Edinburgh.
All four vacancies are suitable for 80% part-time working
Salary: Salaries for the new tribunal structure are being considered by the Senior Salaries Review Board and it is expected that salary levels will be announced in the autumn. The salary will be at least £101,400 (with London weighting of £4000 when appropriate). The review will take account of the full range of responsibilities of these posts. This is a change to the advert of 1 July.
