MEDICAL PANEL MEMBERS MENTAL HEALTH REVIEW TRIBUNAL
The Judicial Appointments Commission is inviting applications for the post of medical panel member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal. There are 12 vacancies in the North of England and 12 in the South.
The Mental Health Review Tribunal's main purpose is to review the cases of patients detained under the Mental Health Act and to direct the discharge of any patients where the statutory criteria for discharge have been satisfied. Medical panel members sit alongside legally qualified and lay panel members.
Eligibility: Applicants must be registered medical practitioners as defined by the Mental Health Act 1983, Schedule 2 paragraph 1(b). In addition, appointees will usually have held either a full-time or part-time appointment as a consultant psychiatrist for at least three years and be either a Member or Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. However, applicants who do not meet this criterion will be considered if they have an outstanding track record in another relevant role.
Please note that the purpose of this selection exercise is to fill new vacancies. It does not in any way affect the position of anyone who already holds a position as a medically qualified member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal.
