Chief Social Security and Child Support Commissioner of Great Britain

This selection exercise was cancelled on 15 June 2007, following a decision by the Lord Chancellor to withdraw the vacancy.

The Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) is inviting applications for the post of Chief Social Security and Child Support Commissioner of Great Britain.

Eligibility: applicants for this post must be an existing High Court or Court of Session Judge with extensive experience of tribunals at presidential level (of at least one year's duration), or be a currently appointed Social Security and Child Support Commissioner. It is an interim appointment as enactment and implementation of the Tribunals, Courts and Enforcement Bill is likely to supersede the need for the post of Chief Social Security Commissioner.

The post is suitable for part time working, with arrangements to be agreed between the successful candidate, the Senior President (Designate) of Tribunals and the Tribunals Service before the candidate takes up the appointment. A minimum commitment of 2 or 3 days a week is required. For further details see paragraph four of the terms and conditions.

Location: London (with the possibility of occasional sittings in Cardiff and Edinburgh)

Salary: £131,849
