PRESIDENT AND LEGALLY QUALIFIED PANEL MEMBERS
CHARITY TRIBUNAL
The Judicial Appointments Commission is inviting applications for the posts of President (one vacancy) and legally qualified panel members (five immediate vacancies) of the Charity Tribunal.
The Charity Tribunal is due to be operational from January 2008. It will hear appeals against decisions of the Charity Commission, and extends to England and Wales only. The Tribunal can also deal with referrals from the Charity Commission and the Attorney General.
PRESIDENT
As President you will act as judicial head of the Charity Tribunal working in partnership with the Regional Director and staff within the Tribunals Service to provide good quality justice and a responsive and efficient administration.
Eligibility: you will be a solicitor or barrister with a seven year general qualification and have served in a judicial office for at least two years or have completed 30 sitting days since appointment. Knowledge of charity law is essential. This post is suitable for part time working on the basis of 80% of a full time post.
Location: the administration of the Tribunal is likely to be outside London. Appeals to the Tribunal could originate from any area within England and Wales and hearings will take place across the two countries. Attendance at hearings and visiting the administration centre may require travelling and necessitate an overnight stay
Salary: £123, 200 (from 1 November 2007)

LEGALLY QUALIFIED PANEL MEMBERS
As a legal member you will hear applications and hearings in the Charity Tribunal, either alone or as part of a panel, to provide good quality justice.
Eligibility: you will be a solicitor or barrister with a seven year general qualification. Knowledge of charity law is desirable but not essential.
Location: hearings will take place across England and Wales. Attendance at hearings may require travelling and necessitate an overnight stay
Fee: £450 per day (from 1 November 2007)
