Key facts
- total expenditure in 2018–19 was £6.68m (compared to £4.89m in 2017–18)
- The JAC was asked to fill a much larger number of posts compared to previous years: in 2018–19 the JAC completed 23 selection exercises, with 4,917 applications and 1,031 recommendations
- the JAC supported 2 senior appointment exercises: Commissioners sat on the panel to select 6 judges of the Court of Appeal; Commissioner also sat on the panel to select the President of the Queen’s Bench Division
Diversity
- official statistics for 2018–19 showed women made up 48% of all recommendations (456); for posts requiring legal qualifications they were 44% of recommendations (336)
- Black, Asian and ethnic minority (BAME) candidates comprised 14% of all recommendations (130); they were 11 of recommendations for legal posts (81)
