*UPDATE 30/1/15 12noon*
The intent to apply deadline has been extended to 10am on Monday 2 Feb. The deadline for all references to have been received by the JAC is unchanged and remains 13 February 2015.
A selection exercise is to be run to identify the next UK representative of the General Court of the European Union on behalf of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Open for application: 28 January 2015
Closing date for applications: noon 13 February 2015
No of vacancies: One
Judges at the General Court are appointed for six-year terms, and the current UK Judge (Nicholas Forwood), will retire in October 2015. The successful applicant will be appointed to complete the remainder of Judge Forwood's term, which will end in August 2019. Terms at the General Court are renewable so, if re-nominated, a successful candidate could undertake a further six-year term.
In order to meet the appointment timetable prospective candidates should identify two judicial or professional referees, one of whom should be their 'appraising' judge, or line manager, who are prepared to submit references by 13 February. You should note that by 10am on Friday 30 January you will be expected to have emailed your intent to apply, with the names and contact details of your referees. Not responding within this timeframe will not disqualify you from the exercise but may disadvantage you as your referees will have less time in which to provide their references. We would recommend that if you are considering making an application you contact your referees at the earliest opportunity to ensure they can meet this deadline.
