Salaried Judge of the Upper Tribunal, Lands Chamber
The JAC has been asked to identify one candidate to recommend for the post of Salaried Judge of the Upper Tribunal, Lands Chamber. This exercise is expected to launch at 13:00 on 23 October, closing for applications at 13:00 on 6 November.
This is a new post which is intended to increase the full time judicial complement of the Lands Chamber following the acquisition of additional jurisdictions in land registration and telecommunications and in anticipation of an increase in compensation claims arising out of public works.
Who can apply
You are eligible to apply for this post if:
- you are a solicitor or barrister in England or Wales with at least 7 years post qualification experience
- you are an advocate or solicitor in Scotland of at least 7 years standing
- you are a barrister or solicitor in Northern Ireland of at least 7 years standing
- in the opinion of the Senior President of Tribunals, you have gained experience in law which makes you as suitable for appointment as if you satisfy any of the conditions set out above
Previous judicial experience is not necessary, however, the Lord Chancellor requires candidates to have expertise in the law in at least one of the following fields: compensation, rating or real property (including landlord and tenant). In addition, candidates must be able to offer a reasonable length of service, usually of 5 years, before the statutory retirement age of 70.
